HTC RE camera vs. GoPro: Which is Better?

As history has shown many times, it is difficult to seduce a king. GoPro is basically the undisputed champion of the high-performance camera since its founder Nick Woodman launched an Indonesian Seashell necklace from the California coast and funded a better view of browsing the video. Such a feature in this area did not stop competitors like Sony and Polaroid, but most people thought HTC would introduce camera games on special devices a year ago. Deserted – the company eventually built a good reputation for its tablets and smartphones. However, the recently announced GoPro alternative HTC King brings to the market a miniature camera capable of capturing 16MP photos and 1080p video with a waterproof frame that can be easily inhaled like a Loch Ness monster-like smartphone supplements.

The HTC Re is small, portable, and IPX7 rated, but how does it match a comparable price tag on the GoPro Hero3 White? Check out the comparison below for more information on hardware and features for each compact camera.

Difference between HTC RE and GoPro

HTC’s recently announced RE camera faces a new market for the company. This market has surprisingly little competition in recent years. With the majority of face cameras declining due to improved video capture quality from smartphones, the GoPro line has become a reliable choice for those looking for an affordable, portable and durable camera. Compare the GoPro Hero 3 at $ 199 with a similar HTC RE.

HTC RE camera vs. GoPro: What they are?

GoPro Hero is a very popular brand in the action camera category, which is very popular among professionals looking for affordable, portable, durable, waterproof cameras. HTC is also a prominent brand known for its smartphones and tablets. But last year, they entered the sports action camera market with the HTC RE Camera.

HTC Re Camera is a compact device with a 16MP camera with high-definition video and slow-motion capabilities. HTC isn’t directly competing with GoPro; it bridges the gap between casual and professional users. There is no doubt that the GoPro is a great device, but it is made for the action enthusiast. To get the most out of GoPro, you need better hardware and video editing skills.

Design and durability

HTC Re and GoPro Hero 3 are lightweight and easy to carry, but they are very different in design. HTC Re is a tubular device less than 4 inches in length, with the lens housed in a binocular-like frame causing the lens to fall off. This device has only two buttons. One is on the front for switching between shooting modes (standard or slow motion), and the other is on the top for taking photos and videos with your thumb. Simple devices do not have a standard display or interface that can automatically operate the device when it is taken out. Even if you’re using a hoodless GoPro, it’s 2.35 ounces lighter than the Hero3, but it doesn’t have the sturdy Hero3 waterproof case. While GoPro products are valid up to 191 feet, HTC recommends submerging the King to just 3.1 feet for up to 30 minutes without using the company’s additional waterproof accessories.

Hero3 selects a more traditional camera design (i.e., box-shaped). It doesn’t have a built-in viewfinder and interface like HTC Re, and it has some simple buttons on the front and top of the device to operate the device, select the desired shooting mode, and record content. You can do that. At the very least, it has a small front LCD that displays the status of the camera, and you can adjust the settings. Yesterday, however, Hero3 and Re both replaced the HD LCD screen and viewfinder with smartphone apps for Android and iOS devices. This allows you to view camera shots in real-time or view photos and videos as they are. Sign in each device also has a light indicator that lights up when you start recording, so you can get a quick notification when the camera is active. There is no better design for the camera than other cameras.

In terms of durability, HTC RE is water-resistant to 1 meter for 30 minutes once taken out of the box (IP57). The GoPro Hero3 is not inherently waterproof, but it is installed in a molded case, and RE is inaccessible in terms of water resistance and dust resistance. With the camera housing properly attached, the Hero3 can move to a depth of 40 meters with no time limit. While GoPro appeals to a lighter audience, RE appears to be more casual and user-oriented, with a more extreme mind.

HTC RE camera vs. GoPro: Picture quality

Above all, image quality is generally a criterion for evaluating and comparing the final benefit of cameras. The ring as many bells and whistles as you want, but if photos and videos created on a particular device aren’t impressive, they might be paper-heavy. The good news is that both HTCRE and GoPro Hero3 can do great shots.

HTC RE looks the best of the two on paper. It has a 16MP 1 / 2.3 CMOS sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens and an f / 2.8 aperture. GoPro Hero3, likewise, has an ultra-wide-angle lens with f / 2.8 aperture, but it has a resolution of 5 megapixels. The gap between these cameras is not as large as the number of megapixels would suggest.

The GoPro line is appreciated for its ability to create high-quality photos and videos. There’s a reason the Hero Series cameras are an ideal choice for professional production squads looking to captivate fabulous action shots in the most dangerous situations. We didn’t have enough time to mess around with HTC products, but the first results were pretty impressive in their own right. When it comes to photography, it is no exaggeration to say that IR can take a step further. The video is not as easy as a phone call.

Accessories and options

HTC RE is the new HTC device and a new adventure also attached to the wrist strap; it also comes with some accessories to keep the camera attached to anyone. The GoPro Hero Series cameras are the exact opposite of a thriving ecosystem, which provides stands and accessories for nearly any activity you can think of in photography, like biking, skydiving, or even playing guitar.

For comparison, we looked at the GoPro Hero 3 at $ 199 HTCRE. Those who expand their horizons will find that GoPro has various cameras to choose from, including the new Hero4 for professional viewers and an entry-level camera that has many features as same as the Hero3 for $ 70 Less.

Photo options

Aside from the design and aesthetics, the advantage of a high-quality camera is its ability to capture images. In that respect, HTC Re and Hero3 are close, but the GoPro lineup offers a bit more imaging capabilities. Both cameras can capture and capture 1080p video images at 30 frames per second (fps), while Re can record 4x slow-motion video at 720p and 16MP. On the other hand, Hero3 can also choose 1080p or download 960p or 720p resolution for 25fps video recording. The latter resolution expands functionality and includes 50 frames/sec or 60 frames/sec for video capture. The HTC King and Hero3 both complement a similar wide-angle lens with an f / 2.8 aperture and offer an option to shoot different shooting ranges when the time-lapse is on, but the Hero3 also switches modes.

Battery, memory capacity, etc.

HTC Re might not require high-end photography options, but the device supports up to 128GB of expandable memory and features an 8GB microSD card. The Hero3 has imaging capabilities, but it only supports 64GB of memory, but you can expect a longer battery life. HTC claims that Re can capture up to an hour and a half of continuous HD video, while the Hero3 can capture 1080p video at 30 frames per second for just over two hours. Both products have built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Storage space, battery capacity, and connectivity don’t make much of a difference to the average user, but it’s worth noting.

When it comes to available accessories, HTC Re is not a rival to the Hero3. GoPro has built a complete ecosystem around the desirable miniature camera with a variety of mounts and accessories for the sport you want to capture (skydiving, snowboarding, cycling, etc.). However, HTC has a choice of clips, cords, mounts, and many other ways to connect the various components of Re. The HTC company is regularly extending its range of accessories over time, but currently, it cannot compete with many products solutions provided by GoPro and its manufacturers.

Conclusion

To be fair, HTC doesn’t market the RE as a small extreme sports camera. The standard features are designed to make an everyday video recording an unlimited device, and it’s just like a regular smartphone. It offers better imaging accuracy than the Hero3 and the ability to save more of it, but it doesn’t appear anywhere about the shooting modes you can get with GoPro. You can even imagine the Hero3 a larger battery, a waterproof case that exceeds the King’s effort, and even a treasure trove of accessories designed to mount your device. It’s the latest version of the GoPro flagship, but it makes a lot more money than the HTC King.
